SREF 2016 conference in Hargeisa aims to address local energy needs
Non-profit initiative Shuraako will be hosting the Somali Renewable Energy Forum 2016 (SREF 2016) on February 20-23 in the Somaliland capital Hargeisa.
The forum will address concerns associated with high cost of energy in region which has been cited as an impediment to growth of businesses as well putting strain on household economies.
Despite the Somali region immense energy potential for onshore wind power and solar energy, the Somali local demand for energy is far from being fully actualised. The SREF 2016 forum aims to underscore the needs expressed by local stakeholders who wish to advance reliable, sustainable, scaled generation and distribution of energy with special emphasis put on renewable energy.
The first two days of programme is designed to imprint a more accurate impression of the Somali energy landscape. This entails strengthening strategy for energy production and distribution, sharing new technology solutions, increasing investment opportunities as well improving knowledge of labour force demand and training.
The forum is sponsored by a host of stakeholders in public and private sector as well as non-governmental and international organisations.
