President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud Silanyo on Thursday held talks with businessmen about the effects of the recent drought at his official residence in Hargeisa, reported local media.
Many regions of Somaliland have been hard hit by drought which has caused displacement of people and loss of livestock.
The minister of the office of the president Mohamud Hashi Abdi told the media that the meeting focused on the business community role in supporting the drought affected communities. The government also pledged to aid the affected communities in the stricken areas.
According to the president, helping those in need during such times is a collective responsibility.
Similarly, Somaliland lawmakers have appealed to the people of Somaliland and the government to assist the communities affected by the drought. Parliamentarian Ahmed Mohamed NacNac told the media that some MP’s had visited affected areas such as Sylac and Salah
