The government of Somaliland has appealed for urgent humanitarian assistance following the serious drought in many parts of the country which has affected up to forty percent of the population,reported the local media.
Many regions in Somaliland have declared drought in the aftermath of prolonged failure of seasonal rains for the past two years.
The situation is particularly dire in western regions of Maroodi Jeex, Awdal, Gabiley, Sahil, Baligubadle, Sahil and eastern Sanaag where over one million people have been affected.
Many people have been displaced and lost their livestock due to the drought. The situation could become catastrophic is the expected seasons rains this year fails.
