President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud Silanyo on Wednesday held talks with the ambassador of France to Kenya Rémi Maréchaux in Hargeisa, reported the local media. The French ambassador was accompanied by a large delegation as part of his entourage.
The meeting focused on expansion of the port of Berbera, the relationship between Somaliland and France and future economic development of Somaliland.
“Berbera Port is a vital economic powerhouse which has the potential to become a large port in the horn of Africa, and can benefit not just only Somaliland but many other African countries. It is time that Berbera Port in the Republic of Somaliland becomes a viable solution for the horn of Africa,” said foreign affairs minister Saad Ali Shire.
The French ambassador was impressed by the development in the country.Maréchaux said he had witnessed much progress since his last visit.
